Family Summer Activities 2012

Even though this summer was a difficult one for Dale and I with the passing of Dale's father and trying to remodel our home we were able to have some fun with our wonderful family. 

Pioneer day with the slip and slide. None of the grandkids had swimming suits for this impromptu activity so Grandma provided her teeshirts.

Zack and Cash got thirsty and decided this was easier than going inside

Emme, Mack and I had lots of time to play as we tried to stay out of the way while their things were moved from their apartment to a beautiful home that deer like to visit every morning, much to Emme's delight. They are house sitting for a couple while they serve their mission. 

Watching James play soccer! It was funny watching the kids play in this dirt hole instead of chasing the ball.   Much more exciting for them.

James play soccer like a gentlemen. He would rather everyone take turns instead of taking the ball from each other.  

Birthdays and the arrival of Garrett Ross Hegerhorst

Julie and Kellie turning 25! It is hard to believe my youngest are a quarter of a century old.  It was fun to have them together for their birthday this year. The night before Dale and I tended while the couples went to see "Batman".

Emme and Zack wanted to help blow out the candles. Those pies do look awfully good.

While we were at it they sang Happy Birthday to me. After just finishing Trek I was feeling each of my increasing years.

On July 23rd Garrett Ross joined our family much to the relief of his Mom and Dad, especially Mom. What a beautiful baby with a cute dimple. Dale and I were grateful that he waited to come till we got home from Trek.

Pioneer Trek July 2012

Dale and I had the opportunity to be a "Ma and Pa" in a 3 Ward trek in our home Stake. This was the wonderful family of eight youth that was assigned to us. Sidney, Tyler, Carly, Austin, Karina. Matthew and Jacqie. 

The 2nd day trekking to Martin's Cove. We walked around 5 miles and spent time hearing stories about the handcart pioneers involved in this sacred area. 

They had the groups walk without the handcarts to Martin's Cove. They asked us to have quiet voices and a reverent attitude as we visited this very sacred site. Many pioneers lost their lives here. Of course I had my eyes pealed for rattlesnakes. Luckily I never saw one.

The third day we did the women's pull which was a very tender experience for all of us. 

 

During our first pull through the Sweetwater Dale slipped and almost fell under the cart. Luckily all he ended up with was stinky mud on his nice white shirt.

For lunch we were given the ration of flour the the pioneers received daily. It really impressed us how they were able to survive their daily struggles with such a small amount of food. As you can tell by their faces, it did not taste very good!

Our family after their 15 mile trek to Rocky Ridge. Dale and I came as part of the rescue party to encourage them the last mile. We were so proud of how well they all did and wish we could have been with them. The BLM only allows 200 people per day over Rocky Ridge so some of the kids and many of the adults had to stay home. We worked so hard taking down camp and setting it up at our last campsite so they were able to rest after their long day.

Pres. Hinckley had a memorial set up that listed the names of the 13 pioneers in the Willie Company that died during one of the worst nights. The next day 2 more died. I felt such a reverent feeling as we walked around this area. This ended up being such a challenging and strengthening experience for Dale and I. We were grateful for the blessing we received by our Bishopric that promised us we would have the health we needed to accomplish all that needed to happen. I have to say I was very happy to see my bathroom and feel our air conditioning when we got home.

Lily's School Program and Singing Recital

Lily has been taking voice lessons for several months and had her first recital on Saturday afternoon. Dale, Krista and I got there just as she finished singing her individual solo, much to our great disappointment. We had trouble finding the library. But we were able to hear her sing with the group at the end and I have to say she had the longest and most difficult solo of all of them and finished the song off so well. That's our Lily!

Because we missed her solo Lily was sweet enough to sit on this wall outside the Riverton Library and sing it for us. I have never heard "The Sun Will Come Up Tomorrow" sung as sweetly and with perfect pitch as I heard from my Lily. She has been blessed with a talent to sing and I am so glad she is willing to share this talent with us. 

Two Hikes May 2012

Dale and I in an effort to get in shape as well as enjoy nature more fully have set aside time to go on hikes in a variety of locations. Our first one took place in Rock Canyon by the Provo Temple.  It was a beautiful day and a fun hike. Dale took lots of flower pictures.

2nd Hike was with our whole family in Battlecreek Canyon walking to the falls on Memorial Day. It was a perfect hike for the little kids.

Here we go. Miles fell asleep on the way so Todd very willingly stayed behind in the car with him.

Andrew was very brave and took Levi, Owen and James to the top of the hill. They had fun scooting down on their bums.

Here is our trooper! We were all amazed at Kim's endurance being 8 mths along.  Another fun Hegerhorst Adventure.
